Chief Uibel and Councilman Arlett announced a continuation of Operation GEM with Phillip C Showell during a school assembly. The students, staff, and members of Roxana are very excited about this reading pilot program.

"Blazing a Trail for Literacy"

Reading is very important and is a fundamental building block in the development of our children. The Roxana Volunteer Fire Company & Operation GEM are advocates of reading in our schools and at home. We try to promote reading in every possible way because with good reading fundamentals children
grow into good contributing citizens.
The top three readers from each grade (K-5th.) who read the most minutes in the prescribed time period will receive prizes.
